I got a phone call from a German organizer and she asked me to join Korean-German S&T Cooperation on Service Robotics as the conference introduction. I gave a talk with the title "Overview and status of research in Korea and recent achievements in medical microrobotics" on June 15th. The conference seems to be a continual program between Korea and Germany.
2022-09-13 15:40:57Finally BioRob2022 was on the stage during Aug. 21. - 24. in Seoul. I proposed BioRob2022 Seoul already 4 years ago. I was General Chair and working together with Organizing Committee and Program Committee. I felt fully responsible with KIMIRo staff together. To summarize, participants were satisfied with the program, progress and even Korean traditional dishes. Well done. I apprecaite again OC, PC, KIMIRo staff and all participants for your cooperation.
2022-09-13 15:39:04I was suggested to join MARSS as a plenary speaker.(July 25. - 28., Toronto) I recognized MARSS is mostly dedicated to medical microrobotics. It seems to be necessary for our staff to attend as many as possible.
2022-09-13 15:36:13After strict COVID regulations during last 2 years, I tried to join international conferences as often as possible for direct communications. During last half year I joined ICRA in Philadelphia in May, ISR in Munich in June, MARSS in Toronta in July ald BioRob in Seoul in August. Probably no more for this year due to other urgent works again! A keynote talk at ISR(Int'l Symposium on Robotics) Europe in June 22. in Munich. ISR was useful, because Automatica(robot exhibition) and IFR meeting are also running in parallel in the same place.
2022-09-13 15:34:38KIMIRo publicates journal papers and proceeding papers as usual. Among them I would count the following 2 papers as remarkable achievements. 1. Programmable morphology for medical microrobot We have been focusing majorly on locomotion of microrobot. But one paper is focused on shape change for high efficacy. The paper title is “Multifunctional Biodegradable Microrobot with Programmable Morphology for Biomedical Applications" and was publicated on Jan. 26. 2021 on "ACS Nano" (IF : 14.6) 2. Superior functions to other biomaterial based artificial muscle Many scientista are working on biopolymer to achieve higher functionality. KIMIRo achieved probably the better biopolymer from various viewpoints that others. The paper title is "Ultralow Voltage High‐Performance Bioartificial Muscles Based on Ionically Crosslinked Polypyrrole‐Coated Functional Carboxylated Bacterial Cellulose for Soft Robots" and was publicated on March 24. 2021 on "Advanced Functional Materials" It was under collaboration between KIMIRo(Prof. Eunpyo Choi et al) and Zhejiang Sci-Tech University(Prof. Fan Wang et al) in China. The paper displayed cover page of the journal.

The main functions of KIMIRo II builing are : - clinical GMP facilities for companies - animal test for efficacy test - function test of the medical devices The total budget is 30.8 B KW(roughly 28 M USD) in total. The basic concept of KIMIRo : - KIMIRo I for R&D on medical microrobotics - KIMIRo II for commercialization of medical microrobots In summary, KIMIRo covers from the scratch up to the commercial product at the same site. It accelerates conversion of technology into the product. KIMIRo II will be effective in operation from middle of 2023.
